One of our goals as a design firm is to be environmentally conscious, especially when creating large‑format environmental graphics. Sustainability is built into our Guided Space Method™ from the beginning. We take the time to research materials and printing methods and visit our vendors to learn new techniques. We then proactively advise clients on how designs can be adapted for long‑term use rather than one‑time installations.
There are many ways to approach sustainability in large‑format design. Across our projects, we regularly incorporate eco‑friendly inks, recyclable substrates such as aluminum and steel, LED lighting, and responsibly sourced materials including FSC‑certified plywood and bamboo. We also repurpose hardware, art, and graphics when we can, which is both an environmental and a cost savings for our clients. These choices help reduce environmental effects while maintaining durability and visual impact.
Designing for longevity is both environmentally responsible and cost‑effective. A standout example is the Adopt a Room Mural we created in 2014 – more than a decade ago – for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Delaware. The installation was intentionally designed for updates over time: the acrylic backer remains in place, while new vinyl die‑cut birds and leaves are added to recognize additional donors. Room signage is refreshed annually using clear overlays. This approach significantly reduces material waste and production costs, which is an important consideration for the nonprofit organization.
Back in 2016 we branded the GSK consumer healthcare space in the Warren, NJ. In 2022, GSK spun off their consumer healthcare division and formed a new company called Haleon. Because we worked on the original branding, we knew what assets were in the space that could be reused to save materials and money. We were able to reuse 10 snap frames in three different locations around the site, paint them to match the Haleon brand and print new posters. Use the blue slider to swipe for the before and after of the transformation.
We also prioritize LED light sources for both interior and exterior signage. LEDs are energy‑efficient, long‑lasting, and require less maintenance over their lifespan, making them an ideal solution for high‑impact features like these 6′ GSK letters that need to perform reliably for years.
As a company, we are practicing sustainability by working remotely three days a week. Fiore Design went fully remote during COVID, and during that time we realized that perhaps we did not need to print out paper job jackets, file requests, change forms and proofs to be effective. Even after our hybrid return to office, our project tracking became fully digital which saves a lot of paper and printer ink.
By pairing thoughtful design with responsible material choices, we create work that is visually compelling, adaptable, and aligned with our commitment to sustainability.
