The Project:
KIPP Philadelphia Charter Schools wanted to publish an annual report, which would include stories, financials, charts, and lots of student/teacher photography.
The Challenge:
The KIPP team wanted to use the artwork of Shepard Fairey as a starting point for the look and feel.
The Strategy and Creative Solution:
Shepard Fairey is the artist behind the famous Barack Obama HOPE political poster. The KIPP brand color palette lent itself well to that style, and we used a treatment similar to the poster for hero photographs, but wanted to make sure that the vibrancy of the school community was displayed in other ways as well. We created pattern elements to highlight the strides the school made in the 2021-2022 school year.
Art Director Brianna Protesto worked on the annual report, and shared that she really enjoyed working on this project. “The annual report offered so many opportunities for creative design. The client was inspired by Shepard Fairey’s artwork, which made it especially fun to interpret that aesthetic within the KIPP brand. I loved developing the overall layout and had multiple chances to create custom illustrations, icons, and infographics throughout the piece.”
